Roosevelt Canyon along the Salt River in central Arizona

The Salt River flows from the upper right to the lower left in the central portion of the upper image through Roosevelt Canyon.  The lower image is a view looking to the west from the east through Roosevelt Canyon.  The lake is Roosevelt Lake.    Notice that several criteria have been noted for you on the image.  Use this information to determine the mechanism responsible for this transverse drainage.
