Hurricane Canyon along the Virgin River of southern Utah

The Virgin River flows right to left in the upper half of this image.  The prominent canyon in the upper image is Hurricane Canyon.  Notice that several criteria have been noted for you on the image.  Use this information to determine the mechanism responsible for this transverse drainage.  Note: "barbed" is synonymous with "deflected"
