  • Location Description - An early morning view looking to the west from atop the Vermillion Cliffs just east of Lees Ferry (in shadow).  Grand Canyon begins here and ends 270 miles downstream at the Grand Wash Cliffs. Though the crack heading off to the west officially begins Grand Canyon, this stretch between here and the confluence with the Little Colorado River is also known as Marble Canyon.  Marble Canyon already indicates a transverse drainage, because the river is flowing downhill through this rising crack in the landscape.  Let's check out what else we see around here...
