Tempe Butte Tilt - Tempe Butte is a hogback, or a long ridge of resistant rock. In this case, the Andesite is resistant to erosion, and it is titled to the south. The rock types at Tempe Butte were laid down originally in a horizontal manner. Long after their deposition, the layers were tilted so that they dip towards the south. |
